I have been meaning to write about the Fantastic holiday we had over Christmas. but I never got round to it Madoka and I decided to go to Puerto Rico "The Rich Port" coined by early settlers.
Where can I start it there's so much to tell! For a start it was the first time I have had Christmas on the Beach in fact it didn't really feel like Christmas at all.
The closest we got was the illuminations in Old Suan Juan
Old San Juan is a quaint little walled citadel it is heavily fortified and remained impenetrable to its present day
Most people had to take a photo of these little turrets that are pretty much on every corner of the ramparts
I still reckon I have the best shot but not wishing to compete with my girl I let her win I will let you judge who's the best photographer see below for my excellent shot! not wishing to be bias at all of course
I even managed to get a bird in mid flight how about that?
As for the Beaches even David Attenbourgh would be impressed with my photograph framing (Yeh right!)
life's a beach Eh!
Arecibo Radio Telescope
While we where there we ended up at the World's largest Radio Telescope and believe me it was huge the USA decided it would be a good idea to place a monster dish in a crater at the top of a mountain It just so happens that Puerto Rico is at the right latitude and has the right Geological features to lend itself to this application and here it is....
"courtesy of the NAIC - Arecibo Observatory, a facility of the NSF
It has three giant masts which support a massive trussed antenna with the use of tendons that are tied into the rock by enormous anchorage blocks this is big Engineering in fact you can get a feel for the scale by looking at the bottom right of the photo see the Jeep.....
...... look closely!
Just to prove we actually got there here's a picture:
Pretty eh? (PS I am not talking about the antenna if you know what I mean!)
It was like being on the set of a Movie... In fact it was the setting of a few movies Including:
- James Bond
- Contact
+ more movies that I cant remember the names of.
